Characteristics of Bermuda /419 Grass:

  • Grows best in warm climates.
  • May become dormant after repeated winter frosts but recovers quickly when temperatures rise.
  • Drought-tolerant, can survive on up to as little as 1/2 inch irrigation per week depending on the soil.
  • Tolerant to traffic and wear, has the best recuperative rate among all warm season turf grasses.
  • Good choice for ground pearl insect infestation

Maintenance Schedule

  • 1. EARLY SPRING Mid-February – Mid-March:

    Timing is crucial for this application. Apply a completely balanced fertilizer heavy in nutrients to promote root growth with Pre- Emergent weed control. This application will assist in the control of spring and summer weeds.

    ** Optional Treatments**

    • Mole Cricket Application: Mid-April – Early May / 1st. Application. / Emerging Adult Stage.
    • All insect applications.
    • Tree & Shrub fertilization and insect control.
  • 2. LATE SPRING Mid-April – Early May:

    A balanced fertilizer is applied to help promote a smooth transition from dormancy to vigorous summer turfgrass. A second Post – Emergent is applied to control broadleaf weeds.


    05-0-10 + Pre- Emergent.


    ** Optional Treatments**

    • Mole Cricket Application: Late May - Early July / 2nd. Application. / Nymph Stage after the eggs have hatched. This is the best time for maximum control.
    • All insect applications, White Grubs will be emerging.
    • Tree & Shrub fertilization, fungicide treatments, and insect control.

    Core Aeration: This is recommended to keep your lawn looking beautiful by relieving soil compaction and thatch buildup while allowing water and nutrients to reach the root area.

  • 3. EARLY SUMMER June:

    Balanced fertilization for maximum turf color. Spot treatment of post-emergent weed control for both grassy and broadleaf weed will be applied during this time period if needed.

  • 4. SUMMER July:

    Apply iron for increased maximum color. Spot treatment of post-emergent weed control for both grassy and broadleaf weeds will be applied during this time period if needed. Ironite for Green Color.

  • 5. LATE SUMMER Late August – Early September:

    Balanced fertilization for maximum turf color. Spot treatment of post-emergent weed control for both grassy and broadleaf weeds will be applied during this time period if needed.

  • 6. FALL October:

    A specially formulated fertilizer to strengthen and deepen the root system for those cold winter months ahead. Included is a pre-emergent to control weeds such as Poa Annua, Henbit, and many others. 


    15-0-15 + Pre-Emergent Do not use Pre-M if you are overseeding.


    ** Optional Treatments**

    • Tree and Shrub Fertilization
    • Winter Rye Applications / Do not use Pre-M if you are overseeding.
    • Winter: Dormant Horticultural Oil / This application will smother scale type insects and the eggs of many other plant damaging bugs.
